Unhyped China, including its soon-to-be-launched companion site China City Directory, is run by David Feng. Born in Beijing, he grew up in Zürich and is presently in London after 14 years in China, where he has travelled extensively, especially by train. In China, he founded a Mac user group, blogged and tweeted about tech and other matters, was a host or emcee since 2004 (with many years of experience in media, especially radio), made the leap from “student” to “scholar” by completing a PhD in communication / media, taught at schools and universities, and was part of the capital’s “Chinglish committee”, aimed at fixing signs with broken English. Having both Chinese and Swiss points of views, David presents a view of China, unhyped, unlike any other. He is now Visiting Academic and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster’s China Media Centre, where his focus of research is on social media in China.
